We are aiming to raise £87,600 as part of our 120th year celebrations to enhance the comfort of Belfast Cathedral for decades to come and we need your help. Monies raised will go towards replacing the 500 chairs from the cathedral Nave which have been in use since the consecration of the cathedral on 2nd June 1904.
The ambition to replace the uncomfortable wooden chairs which are heavy and difficult to move, with new comfortable, stackable and moveable chairs, is as we are the anchor of Belfast’s globally-renowned Cathedral Quarter, the civic building in the heart of Belfast City Centre. It is our intention to continue to serve the people of Belfast and Northern Ireland for a further 120 years and they deserve a comfortable place to sit!
We are delighted to be able to share the very successful and tremendous news, we have already raised over £40,000
Forward By, The Dean of Belfast, The Very Reverend Stephen B Forde - “As Dean and Trustee of the Charity that is St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast I am seeking your help to raise a significant sum of money for our cathedral’s 120th Anniversary Appeal. St Annes’ Cathedral is an iconic building at the heart of the City of Belfast. It has stood witness to 120 years of history in our city. Over those years, the cathedral has been a place of worship, celebration and commemoration for some of our city’s most momentous occasions. As a civic space, used by many of our city’s most prestigious organisations, charities and schools, and as a tourist venue, with visitors from across the globe, Belfast Cathedral is a valued venue, which is appreciated and loved by all who enjoy its magnificent architecture and special ambiance. My direct ask to you today is to donate whatever you can or follow the option to donate a chair in memoriam of a loved one. Thank you for your consideration and support.”
Donors are encouraged to give what they can. Additionally, we are inviting families who lost a relative during the Covid-19 pandemic, or who wish to commemorate a loved one, to consider donating in their honour. All donors of £150 or higher can dedicate a chair in honour of their loved one, with their name and dates etched in a commemorative display within the Cathedral.
