Service of Reflection

Events

Tuesday 23 March 2021 marks the first anniversary of the imposition of National Lockdown in Northern Ireland. Marie Curie has called for this to be a National Day of Reflection, asking businesses, civic buildings and churches to participate by pausing in memory of the lives lost to Covid locally— to date over 2,100.

In support of this, and as part of our own Lives Reflected initiative, Belfast Cathedral will be holding a Livestreamed Service of Reflection on Tuesday 23 March at 7.30pm.

The service can be viewed live at:

 www.facebook.com/BelfastCathedral

The service will take the form of Choral Evensong, featuring settings by David Terry and Matthew Owens, and the anthem Pie Jesu from Gabriel Fauré's Requiem. Candles will be lit in remembrance of every person who has died with a Covid diagnosis.

At the same time, the cathedral is also conscious of the many more deaths that have taken place over the past 12 months, where normal funeral arrangements and grieving processes were not possible, and this will be reflected during the service too. To that end, the Cathedral has established "Lives Reflected" as our National Online Book of Remembrance Website. This can be found at:
