Thomas Ospital Organ Workshop

On Saturday 14th September we welcomed  THOMAS OSPITAL [right], the young celebrity organist of Saint-Eustache, Paris, and one of the leading organ recitalists in Europe, to the Cathedral to conduct an Organ Workshop.

Bartosz Thiede [seated], the recently appointed Director of Music at Kilkenny Cathedral improvised on an old Polish plainsong hymn; William Forrest [left], our Organ Scholar, played a movement of a Symphony by Widor; and Jack Wilson [centre] Acting Assistant Organist at St Anne’s played a great fugue by Duruflé.

Thomas Ospital provided interesting suggestions to William and Jack about performance of this French music on the Cathedral organ and held an animated discussion with Bartosz about his approach to improvisation. On the following day Thomas played a spectacular Improvisation during his Ulster Hall Recital on Stanford’s hymn tune Engelberg which he had admired during the Workshop in the Cathedral.
