Cyril King presents 7 volume set of drawings and photographs to Belfast Cathedral
On Tuesday 31st March, 2026, Mr Cyril King made a presentation to the Dean of seven facsimile volumes of drawings held in the cathedral archive. Each of these images shows a photograph or drawing for the building of St Anne’s Cathedral over the 120 year history of its conception and construction.
These volumes are the product of many months of hard work by Cyril, photographing all of the original drawings currently stored in the cathedral archive. Cyril then edited each photograph to enhance what it showed to best effect. Cyril is a former Lecturer and Education Adviser, and also a member of the cathedral choir. For Cyril, the completion of this work within the cathedral archive proved to be a very interesting and informative project.
On receiving the collection of reproduced photographs and drawings, Dean Stephen Forde said,
“The beauty and detail of these architectural drawings is quite amazing. The photographs give so much detail and context for the construction of the cathedral across the decades. Cyril has given us an invaluable record of this archive which has largely remained hidden. The cathedral owes Cyril a huge debt of gratitude”.
The set of reproduced photographs and drawings will be made available in the cathedral library. Soon they will form part of a display in the cathedral building to be enjoyed by visitors, tourists and members of the cathedral community.
